Random pictures from this last year or so!

Everyone in masks!  I had made lots of masks for the grandchildren to wear to school.  Ellie wanted something different.  We had made them for every holiday, in every color, and even for some of her friends to have matching masks.  She had an old backpack with those wonderful sequence that could be swiped up and down to change the colors.  We found enough  good area left to make a mask out of it.  We used a purchased paper mask like nurses wear and just sewed the sequence fabric to it.  So it is soft and comfortable on her face but can be swiped to change the colors on the front.  She was quite the personality at school with that one.

Ellie and I have made several gnomes for holidays.  She spent the weekend around Easter so we had to make an Easter Gnome.  We think she turned out really cute.

Over the 4th of July last year we made patriotic flip flops.  Just cut up lots of red, white and blue ribbons and tied them onto a purchased pair of flip flops.

My daughter, Nicky, enters lots of Give-Aways.  She seems to win a lot!  She won a package of these fabrics.  They were cute and girly.  I made this quilt for Nicky's daughter, Ellie for when she graduates from high school......she is only 12 now.  Can't be too prepared!!

I have been making Waffle Cookies for years.  They seem to be a favorite with my children and grandchildren.  Just had to post a picture here.  I don't make them much anymore unless there is a family get together.  They are so rich and chocolaty.

Nicky needed some fabric arrows for a game for a family reunion.  I made several of these and filled them with fish tank rocks.  They worked really well.

My daughter, Krista, brought me some fabric back from a trip to London (I think).  I made these 4 patch stars framed with dark purple points.  I think the dark purple really brightened up the subdued fabrics.

This is a scrap quilt that I started as a leader and ender quilt.  No rhyme or reason to the colors, just wanted to use up fabric.  I finally put a dark blue polka dot fabric on the back and gave it to my Grandson Spencer and his new bride, Mariana for their wedding this last weekend.  It is really bright and fun.  Forgot to get a picture of it with them.  But they loved it.

Over 53 years ago I was in college at Brigham Young University in Provo, Utah.  These are 2 of my roommates.  Over the years all 6 of us kept in touch.  However, only 5 of us write now.  One roomie we have lost contact with over the years.  We can't find a current address for her.  Anyway, so much has happened over the years.  Here, 3 of us are together for the funeral of MaryAnn's husband.  Vivian, (in pink,) is from Boston but now lives about 30 minutes from me, (in gold) in Utah.  MaryAnn is in the middle and lives in Wyoming.  Funny how you don't see each other for years and years and still feel the love and support of college roomies.  We had so much fun remembering the past and catching up on the present.

Well thats it for now.  I've not been quilting as much as I like but I have been trying to put a few tops together.......they may never get quilted but it keeps me happy.  Nicky gave me bunches of old jeans she wants to make into picnic quilts for family members.  Over the past few weeks I have started cutting them into squares for rag quilts.  So far I have enough for 2 or 3 quilts.  Still 2 more boxes to cut up. At least the blocks will be ready for her when she actually wants to start making them into quilts.

Happy Quilting everyone!                   Lynda

Moving to a big boy bed!

Wyatt is moving to a big boy bed.
He is so excited.  It has been a long time coming!
He has watched me make the quilt for his new bed and
waited somewhat impatiently to have it be his own!

This is the back of the quilt.  I wanted to use up fabrics
from the front and also ones that matched the colorway.
I have been trying to do that the last few quilts hoping to use up a lot of my
leftover fabrics.
My stash consists of pieces, not so big, left over from other quilts.
I rarely go out and buy fabric just to be buying fabric........
even tho I would love to be able to do that!

This is the front of his quilt.
It is a Buggy Barn pattern, which I love.  I also
used all stash fabrics for it too.
I had thought I would use wool fabrics for the muzzle, nose, and bone.
However, when I priced the wool, it would cost me about
$50 just for that part!  That was way too much
too spend on a quilt that would be washed often......very often.
I think it is cute just using cotton fabrics.
I used Bee in My Bonnet, Lori Holt's, method of applique.
That way it is ironed down and machine appliqued also
so it should be pretty well attached.
The quilting is dog paws and looks really cute.

As you can see it turned out pretty big.  I'm not sure he is
big enough or strong enough to pull it up and make his bed.
He said that was o.k. cuz he didn't like to make his bed anyway!

This quilt was so much fun to make.

Missionary Christmas Stocking

Had to make a Missionary Christmas Stocking
for Elder Spencer Demers.

His Mom will fill it with goodies and make sure he gets it when he arrives in Florida.
We'll be making waffle cookies for him tomorrow to deliver to the MTC.

So much fun having a Missionary in the family again!!

Random Postings

I haven't posted for awhile.  Seems I can never remember how to find my pictures to post them!

Here is a picture of my Grandson, Spencer, receiving his graduation quilt in Arkansas.
He of course loved it and started using it that very day.
( We took him to the Missionary Training Center today.  He will be serving in the
Florida Tampa Mission.  He was so excited and a little nervous.  I am so excited for
him and can't wait to hear of all his new experiences!)

A few months ago I posted my Granddaughter, Ellie, with a St. Patrick's Day wreath we had made.
For Easter, my Grandson, Gavin, came over and we made a wreath together.  Never got around to posting it so here it is now.  The wind would blow and the Easter grass kept blowing away.
We had a good time gluing all the plastic eggs onto the wire tho.

My friend, Janine, wanted to take a class on making a Swoon quilt.
She convinced me I needed to go with her.  We each made one block for the quilt.
The teacher was very disorganized and kept jumping around with the
instructions.  We put the blocks away and waited 3 or 4 years before she decided
to finish the quilt.  It took us 3 different days working together to finish the blocks.
It turned out so pretty.  She used red Minkie  on the back.  She has decided that
this one is for her!

My Grandson, Wyatt, is 4 years old now and has grown out of his small bed..
is getting a twin sized bed and needed a new quilt to fit the bed.
He wanted me to make him a puppy dog quilt.
I love Buggy Barn quilt patterns.  This is the start of his quilt.
I love all the scrap fabrics for each dog.
Since this picture I have added the dog houses and button eyes.
The quilter used a dog paw pattern for the quilting.
It turned out really cute.
I need to give it to him this next week so I'll have pictures them.
He was very excited to finally be getting a puppy.
Of course, he really wants a live, soft, bouncy puppy but this will have to do for now.

Quilts for Graduating Grandchildren

Graduation time again.
This year I have 2 grandchildren graduating from
High School
Spencer in Arkansas.
Kennedy in California.

Our Grandson, Spencer, will be graduating in May in Arkansas.
I decided to make him a Mountain Majesties Quilt.
This is the back of the quilt.  I took leftovers from the front
and made a couple rows on the back.
Then I gathered bits and pieces of front fabrics,
sewed them together like a Mile a Minute quilt,
until I had the completed back.
I really love Fall colors so this is one of
my very favorite quilts.

This is the front of the quilt.
When Spencer was younger and they would come for a visit,
Spencer would always ask his Mom to drop him off
in the mountains and let him survive for 3 days
with just a sleeping bag and a knife.
She always said NO but he kept asking.

Another view of front and back together.

I have a Granddaughter, Kennedy, in California who will be graduating also.
She is a vibrant young woman.
These fabrics seem to represent her happy spirit very well.

This is my Granddaughter, Ellie.  She is 8 years old.
When she spends the night at Grandma's house she always
likes to have a project to do.
This time it was a few weeks before St. Patrick's Day
so we made a wreath for their door.
We found green feather boas at the Dollar Store that
she weaved onto a wire wreath frame.  Then
she glued gold coins and shamrocks around the circle.
Topped it off with a big bow and bells
hanging down the center.
We loved it!
And so did her Mom!
And there were stray green feathers floating around my house
after we were done.
We had lots of fun making it.

Yep........I'm keeping busy!

My Granddaughter, Ellie, turned 8 years old.
She wanted a Build a Bear.
Off we went and an hour later we had a cute little bear
and a happy little girl!
We made matching pajamas for them both.
A month and a half later I took my Grandson, Gavin,
but I forgot to take a picture of his blue pajamas.

In my sewing room ongoing cleaning out I found a cute baby panel.
Took it to the quilter (no I don't hand quilt any more!)
Now it is ready for a Great Nephew being born in November.

Aren't the animals just so cute!

A couple more views.

Orange polka dot binding................perfect.

I got together with a friend who wanted to make zipper pouches.
She ended up making about 2 dozen of them.
I settled for 3 so far.
They are quite addictive tho!

This is what I am finishing up right now.
Another Grandson is graduating from high school in Arkansas in May.
When they come for visits to Utah he always asks his Mom to drop
him off up in the mountains with just a knife and a sleeping bag
and see if he could survive on his own for 3 days.
He loves our mountains.
Luckily, she never caved in and let him try it.
I thought a Mountains Majesty quilt would suit him fine.
I used all Autumn scrap fabrics and even used up a ton
of scraps for the back.  Right now I'm adding the
striped binding.  More pictures on this one later.

I delivered 5 big bags of fabric and UFO's to a quilter in our area who has a whole group of women who sew for her.  They make quilts, backpacks, toys and stuffed animals for several different humanitarian projects.  She had a bedroom full of finished things and a kitchen full of partially finished things ready to deliver.  She did say that all the stuff in her home right now will be delivered before the end of the year.  She had several thank you notes from fireman, policeman, agencies, life fight, etc.that they had delivered donations.  I felt that it was a worthy organization to donate my extra fabrics and UFO's.

So not this year!

I got this far and quit!  Yep, I quit!
Just didn't like the way it was going together.
The white fabric that had to be folded over the 4 patch
seemed to pull and buckle and give me fits.
I was just getting frustrated
and so I
QUIT!!

But since then I have pulled it back out.
No hurry this time.
And now I have each of the rows complete.
I even have a few rows sewn together.
It is a slow process since I have to sew and fold and sew and fold.
It certainly isn't my favorite quilt
but it is getting closer to being a finished quilt.
Who knows, maybe it will be done for next year!

Patriotic quilt.............may even be ready by the 4th of July!

Trying to use up some red and blue fabrics.
2 patches being sewn into 4 patches.
10 inch white circles cut and marked.

Still need to cut batting squares but that will be quick.

This will be a circle quilt where I will sew the white circles together
on the pencil lines.  When I get a row, then I add
the 4 patches and sew the white circle edge down to
hold the 4 patch in place.

I've been wanting to make one of these for a long time.
Hope it goes together as easy as I think it will.

Love the colors of Spring and Summer!

We finally purchased some pots and filled them with
flowers for the high chair.
Purple and yellow is the theme this year.
I always love petunias because they
just keep blooming and blooming!

We don't plant a garden anymore
mostly because neither my husband or I
want to take care of it (read that as too lazy).
But we did plant a tomato in a pot.
Lots of little flowers and a couple of tomatoes already.

I painted the big flower on the garage door last year.
My husband added a new white vinyl fence and arbor this year.

I do love my purple wooden highchair!!

Just what is a Lap Desk???

A friend mentioned that she didn't know what a lap desk was.
So I took a picture of the one I received as a gift from a friend.
This is the pillow side that is stuffed with fiberfill.
It sits on your lap.

This is the desk side which is a piece of 1/2 inch board that is smooth and hard.
It is a nice place to put a card or paper when writing.
Or a place for a book or magazine to rest while I am sitting on the couch and trying to read.

This is a side view.
We took a piece of rectangle fabric a little larger than the board.
Made box corners on it.  Then made piping out of a contrasting fabric, sewed
it on and then glued it down to the board leaving an opening
to stuff in the fiberfill.

I have to admit it took us 3 hours to make the first one
but only about a half an hour to make the next one.

Lap desks, bindings and in progress!

A friend gave me a lap desk and then showed me how to make them.
I made Ellie a sweet flowery one to match her sweet personality.

Gavin got one that he says is covered in eyes....watching him all the time.

Wyatt's is covered in monsters......he wouldn't look at me for the picture.

I'm still trying to get rid of scraps!!
9 patches and hour glass blocks make up this picnic quilt.
Since I took this picture I have added a blue stop border.
Now I need to add a scrappy outer border and it will
be ready for the quilter.

Why don't scraps ever diminish???

I finally put the binding on this purple marvel.
Purple is my favorite color.
This quilt will look great in our purple guest bedroom.
I used a lavender flannel for the back.

This quilt was made from a fabric I got for another project and never got around to making.
It has 4 different border fabrics.  I love the bright blue binding.
It will be given to a young couple who are getting married the first part of June.

A Little of This and a Lot of That!

I haven't posted anything for a long time but that doesn't mean I've been slacking!
My husband found this old wooden high chair in a pile of stuff ready to go to the dump.
He knew I would love it so he picked it up and brought it home.
It is missing some rungs.  The seat is splitting and the tray is warped!
But I love the way it looks now all painted purple.
In a couple weeks there will be flowers growing in a pot in the center of the seat.
Won't that be beautiful????

Our 5 year old Grandson, Gavin, always sends me poop emoji on my phone.  He thinks it is so funny.
So when I found these poop emoji cupcakes we had to make them.
As you can see, he couldn't wait to start eating the frosting.

Our  7 year old Granddaughter, Ellie, is more into making something pretty to wear.
When she took her turn spending the night with Grandpa and Grandma
she made a bright button bracelet and belt.
It took a couple of hours to string all those buttons on but she stuck with it
and now has something fun to wear.

My friend, Janine, gave me some more fabric.  This time it was Christmas fabrics
in browns and reds.  I added solid fabric bows and now have the beginnings of
a Christmas quilt for someone in a few months.
It still needs a border.
It was so fast and easy.
The quilt on the right, Delectable Mountains, is the start of a quilt
for another Grandson, Spencer, who will be a senior in High School this
next year.  I now have the top finished and it is ready
to go to the quilter.
I think he will love it.
I chose mountains because when they used to visit us here in Utah from Arkansas,
he would always ask his Mom to take him up and drop him off in the
mountains and let him see if he could survive with just a couple of tools
and a little food.  He wanted her to come back in 3 days to pick him up.
Luckily, she never gave in and did it but he sure begged a lot!

Often when Ellie and Gavin come over they like to go into my sewing room, cut up
lots of little scraps, and put pins into them and fasten them to
the ironing board.
I can get a lot of sewing in when they are playing with scraps.

During Christmas I made a few Trolls to give away to friends.  They turned out pretty cute.

I had a few left over scraps from a quilt and put them together to make these table toppers.
Of course, they are still just flimsies.
Add them to the pile!

I wanted to make a Snail's Trail quilt.
Love all the pinks.
I think it needs a border but it has been set aside for other projects for now.

Now I need to take the projects I started but never finished and work through them to have a completed project!  I can't believe my Mom would work on only 1 project at a time, and finish it completely before starting another project.

I'm a bit embarrassed!

Yes, I am a bit embarrassed.  Two more tops that just needed borders!
I've mentioned my friend, Janine, before.  She buys fabric enough for
both of us to make a quilt.  Over a year ago she wanted to make a
Christmas Turning Twenty.
Soft flannels in red, green and tan.
Now that the borders are on, I'm happy.

Not even sure when I started this one.  I know I purchased the fabrics
for a 3D butterfly quilt.  Then I lost interest in that idea.
Saw a Missouri Star Quilt Company tutorial and
decided these fabrics were perfect for that.
Just needed borders AGAIN.
I used 4 different fabrics from the center of the quilt
for each border.
Another top completed!

Off to the next one.
