My Math teacher friend would be so disappointed!
My design wall is too small for this quilt so I only put half of it up on the wall before starting to sew. Then as I added each additional row I was so excited because the design was all coming together. HOWEVER....I have 3 rows to go and not enough red blocks. Now I know that I counted and planned and stacked into piles all those squares knowing that there were plenty to make the design I had decided on. This is why my math teacher friend would be so disappointed! Somehow I have plenty of the cream blocks but I'm short about 35 red blocks. How does that happen? So now I get to make more blocks before I can finish this quilt top. * * * * * * * * I have sewn on the bindings of 2 quilts and I'm ready to handstitch them down. I know plenty of you machine stitch your bindings down....and if I could master that process....I probably would too. But I do find it relaxing to sit with a nice warm quilt over my lap (since Utah Springs are snowy, cold and sunny all at the same time) and finish the quilt by hand. * * * * * * * * Happy Quilting! Lynda

That is going to be one awesome quilt. Amazing!!
And I also sew my bindings on by hand cause I cannot master the machine sewing on that part.
I love the design of your quilt. It will be worth it to make more blocks. I think we will be seeing lots of red and white quilts because of the exhibit in NYC so you are a trendsetter! And I just think the hand-sewn bindings LOOK better.
Don't you just hate it when that happens??? I know how frustrating that is. You are lucky you still have fabric left to make more blocks. Inevitably, I run out of fabric and when I go back to the store to get more it is gone!!!
Could it be you've mislaid the blocks somewhere (under some fabrics perhaps?). And I too still hand sew the binding down. I actually tried to do it by machine yesterday and gave up pretty quickly as I knew in the end it would take me longer to sew, then to rip, then to resew again. You get the picture ;).
There's always learning to do, don't be so hard on your math skills! It's gonna be a beauty, Lynda.
:-}pokey
Don't you just hate it when that happens? It's going to be a wonderful quilt when it's finished.
I like to hand sew my bindings too. I do machine sew them now for placemats and such.
It looks great even with a few rows missing, Lynda! Don't worry, I too get lost calculating blocks or borders or whatever every now and then and I used to tutor math for years.-)
And by the way; if you’d like to link to a blog or website in you post, you’ll
-Create and write your post as usual, but not post it yet
-Copy the address to the blog/website you want to link to (you’ll find it on the top of your browser)
-mark the words/name you want to link up
-click the little green linky icon which you’ll find just above your text, to the right of the text colour icon
-and paste the address into the pop up box
-click “Ok” and the words/name should change colour and be underlined.
-Post your post as usual.
Good luck.-)
Glad to know that I'm not the only one to suffer from suspect mathematics! Love how your quilt is shaping up.
